Opening Ceremony Spring 2016

Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2016 collection is almost like watching an awkward kid trying to dress cool in the 90’s. An ode to the wrinkled garment on a bedroom floor, the brand has translated everyday basics of a graphic tee, shorts, jumpers, and customised them in a youthful, utilitarian way. Playing around with the idea of functionality, the brand is following in the direction of fellow houses Vetements and JW Anderson with the notion of deconstructing constructed wear and tapping a new market.

Stating “we wanted to focus on all things we love in our wardrobes but mashed up”, cultural references played a large role throughout the collection drawing inspiration from band posters on collage walls of adolescent bedrooms. Beethoven, Chopin and Bach make an appearance throughout the line, in a not so classic way- pun fully intended. Mixing the traditional male hues of predominantly navy and khaki, is this what a 21st century teenage dream looks like for every boy at the back of the class?
