What’s a typical day in the life of Nabile Quenum? I wake up, and when I wake up its always late. Then I go to the shows, either by Uber or a bicycle or metro. When I get there, I run and see what’s happening. What we do is we basically wait for something to happen, it’s a hunt, we stay there and hang out and wait. Its all about keeping your eyes open, to see what’s happening all around you. Then I run, for maybe one or two blocks.
So what happens after the shows, do you go straight back home and start editing? Yes, for example, today at the Dior Haute Couture show, I finished the show, came back home. I don’t usually eat, I don’t cook, so I just start editing because there are so many pictures to edit and send to my clients and magazines. Fashion week is a hurry. We have to produce a lot of pictures, its crazy.
What’s your secret to surviving Fashion Month? Well at the end of all the Fashion Week's I’m dead. There’s no real secret, because I really love what I do. I love taking those photos and those moments and that’s what makes me do it. Every time I take a picture it can be of someone who’s the next generator, its always exciting. There’s always new energy, new movements, new hair.
When you’re at Fashion Week what’s the thing that attracts you to photographing someone, clothes or the attitude? It’s a mix. Sometimes the outfit is good but the attitude is not there. But then sometimes people have a really strong attitude and you can feel their personality through their clothes and the way that they’re moving. Its a lot of things: the way they have their hair tied behind their ears, the way they handle their phone and talking to someone the way their lips are moving. It’s also a mix of the city because the city has a lot to do with a photo as it’s all around and gives it a certain mood.
What are the top three things you cant live without during Fashion Week (apart from your camera)? My phone, my laptop and good clothes.
During Fashion week what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get a photo? There’s always something crazy, like you can run in the middle of traffic, jump and slide on the car. It’s like a real movie!
Top people to photograph? Giovanna Battaglia, Anna Dello Russo and Julie Pelipas.
Best fashion purchase? I don't know thats very hard. Maybe those Raf Simons boots, but today I bought some black and white pants from KTZ.
What’s with the Vivienne Westwood hats? I used to love it, but I don’t love it anymore, because too many people have it now. It’s not relevant anymore. I don’t know how the information spreads, but now with these strange kids, they’re all wearing them. In fashion everything is so fast, but now people move on. I cannot see myself wearing them anymore, not often like before, I always used to wear hats.
Top Designers? KTZ, Marjan Pejoski, Juyna Watanabe, J.W Anderson, Phoebe Philo and Hedi Slimane.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be? If I wasn’t I’d want to be a soccer player or a dancer.
