Spanish brand, LOEWE, has just launched their latest venture the 'LOEWE Craft Prize', recognising detailed work to craftsmanship the annual international prize pairs an original artistic concept with a modern application of traditional methods. Seeking talented artisans to the new initiative, LOEWE will be setting a new standard to the future of craft, as they are currently for fashion. Open to anyone, the prize will be meriting those with an artistic vision, which creative director, Jonathan Anderson comments on " I think it's very important for the DNA of LOEWE, to be able to showcase peoples approach to craft in modern culture. It's a really exciting chapter for the LOEWE FOUNDATION itself and for the history of craft".
Open until November 7th 2016, the award is welcoming anyone who can demonstrate an exceptional ability to create functional objects of superior aesthetic value. By identifying work that reinterprets existing knowledge to make it relevant today while reflecting its maker’s personal language and distinct hand, the LOEWE FOUNDATION aims to highlight the continuing contribution of craft to the culture of our time. The Prize for the winning entry is 50,000 Euros, which will be carefully selected by the expert jury; Jonathan Anderson, LOEWE's creative director, Gijs Bakker, a jewellery artist and Rolf Fehlbaum, the former CEO and soul of Vitra.
