Multi-disciplinary artist, Sophie Buhai has adopted a new approach to the art of jewellery making. The LA based designer who founded ready-to-wear clothing brand, Vena Cava, is now devoted to creating the most sculptural decor for your wrists, neck, hair and ears. Exploring the notion of timelessness and sculptural silhouettes the designer states that "I'm interested in making classic sculptural silver jewelry, that one can own forever." Buhai who is also an interior designer, often takes reference from the delicate details of structured objects either it be the gentle draping of a plant leaf or the smooth structure of a vase.
Unpretentious features which were curated through solid sterling silver has allowed a geometric shift in ear parties to be introduced. Fresh offerings of the decorate pieces range from Hannah Wilke inspired jewels to classic hoop earrings that have been rebirthed with modernist and graphic impulses. Buhai's latest collection features handcrafted works of art specifically made to host the ultimate ear party, drawing heavy references from the art deco era as well as the city of Los Angeles which she describes as having "an earthy quality to it but also a drama and a tackyness…I just love the mix."
