Why Hedi Slimane is suing Kering

The genius that revolutionised Saint Laurent is now suing the French label. Former creative director, Hedi Slimane is taking legal action against his former employer, Kering- the fashion empire that owns Balenciaga, Gucci and more. Kering released a statement regarding the bizarre ordeal; "The procedure regards the usual non-competition obligations that accompanied Hedi Slimane’s collaboration with the Yves Saint Laurent Maison. Kering lifted this clause at the end of Hedi Slimane’s contract, thus freeing Hedi Slimane from this potential constraint. Hedi Slimane is requesting that this clause be applied still, along with the effective payment of the financial compensation that goes with it." Meaning Slimane was thinking of joining another luxury brand under the umbrella of Kering.

With Anthony Vaccarello now heading up Saint Laurent, the Italian designer replaced Slimane in April this year as the new creative director. Since Vaccarello's helm at the brand, he has released two images as part of their advertising campaign, raising questions of it's new DNA, post Hedi Slimane. It's sadly confirmed that the Saint Laurent era that created the genderless movement for the youth is officially over.
