After his first questionable collection for fashion house, Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia has just debuted his first campaign as creative director. The ready-to-wear Autumn Winter 16 campaign, shot by Mark Borthwick captures a more realistic aesthetic, shifting away from the previously highly edited, pore less imagery Wang directed. Gvasalia spoke to WWD about the campaign “I wanted the pieces to be shot in a real environment around where we work and live. So we shot in various locations on the streets of Paris.” Continuing with the realism, the creative director used no celebrities or 21st century 'influencers' to front the campaign as he believes “The new Balenciaga women, the women who wear the clothes, are my celebrities.”
