The most relevant designer of the 21st century is joining the most irrelevant fashion week schedule at New York Fashion Week. After taking the helm at Calvin Klein, Belgian designer Raf Simons will be showcasing his Fall 2017 menswear collection at NYFW. The news was confirmed by President and CEO of the CFDA, Steven Kolb "The CFDA is delighted to add Raf Simons to NYFW: Men’s. Raf is one of the most influential designers on the international fashion stage. His creativity and energy are a welcome addition as we continue to grow this important platform for American menswear.”
With fashion week losing it's purpose, most notoriously New York Fashion Week having the lesser importance of them all, hopefully Simons' joining will bring it back to any form of relevance and hype. Taking into consideration that Raf Simons as a brand has an extremely European based aesthetic as well as it's clientele, will the dying market of NYFW understand and appreciate it's non linear DNA as much? Come February 2017 we'll know.
